ATAD (Assistive Technology & Accessible Design) Certificate, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
The Assistive Technology and Accessible Design (ATAD) Certificate is an innovative and interdisciplinary offering designed to meet the increasing demand for assistive technology and accessible design specialists.
The program’s objective is to provide additional education and training for students needing theoretical and practical backgrounds in assistive technology and accessible design. Graduates of the certificate program can specialize in assistive technology and accessible design in a variety of settings including rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, consulting firms, and school systems.
This 15 credit sequence is an interdisciplinary program that is adding a distance education component in 2011. One of the courses taught in the Occupational Science & Technology Department is "Design & Disability". This course requires a team, semester design analysis and redesign project. The RERC will add a team project to the selection. We anticipate one project per year. Additionally, the ATAD Certificate will pilot the RERC Teaching Module as it is developed and revised.
