Picture shows different factors impacting treatment and prevention of recurrence of clubfoot.

Brief Description:

Picture shows different factors impacting treatment and prevention of recurrence of clubfoot.

Essential Description:

This diagrams the numerous technologies that are integrated to complete a patient specific FEM (Finite Element Method) of a pediatric clubfoot and the use of motion analysis to optimize the conservative treatment and prevention of deformity recurrence.

Detailed Description:

Interactions between seven boxes show the relationships between diagnostic assessments, interventions, and a diagnosis. The first box in the upper left, “Cast materials boundary conditions (previous mechanical testing data)”, includes an image of a child’s leg being casted with a plaster cast. The box below this, “Bone and soft tissue geometry”, has an image of an empty MRI machine. The top middle box, “MFMT material behavior”, has an image of a mechanical stress test machine with point loading labeled “mechanical testing” and a “Sound Speed” color intensity graph labeled “SAM”. Each of these three images have arrows leading to “Pediatric clubfoot FEM” with an image of a single, inverted, blue foot. The MFMT box also interacts with an “MFMT fiber orientation” box. This includes an image labeled “microCT histomorphometry” device. Both MFMT boxes have arrows that point bi-directionally with “Standardized outcome measures” and an image of a “motion analysis functional assessment plantar pressure” device. The “Standardized outcome measures” and “Pediatric clubfoot FEM” have arrows leading to a box with the text “optimization of conservative treatment and prevention of deformity recurrence”.
